The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) is the largest college at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with 14,000 students, 600 faculty members, and more than 50 departments. Applied Technologies for Learning in the Arts and Sciences (ATLAS) provides IT services to LAS.

Digital Media Specialist Liam Moran is part of the  team that provides curriculum and event video production for ATLAS, and for the university’s Office of Online & Continuing Education (OCE). OCE provides undergraduate, graduate, and professional development instruction through an off-campus and distance learning network that links more than 75,000 citizens of Illinois and beyond to the Urbana-Champaign campus.

“My group’s primary focus is curriculum content for web-accessed courses,” said Moran. “Five years ago, we struggled with labor-intensive coding for our course catalog updates. We found Ensemble Video automates the process. We just update the Ensemble system, and the infrastructure knows where to locate the video. It’s a huge advantage and a game changer.”

Moran’s group works with Joel Steinfeldt, Brand Manager for the University Office of Public Affairs. “Ensemble has made it easy to share video to the public website,” said Steinfeldt. “Whether it is an informational feature about a college, a greeting from the chancellor to new students, or live events, I can share it with a click.”

Ensemble Video has also helped the university prepare for the demands of mobile access in education.

Ensemble Video Self-Hosted Platform Delivers a Cost-saving IT Solution

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign implemented Ensemble Video to create a flexible catalog for web content and curriculum. The university needed easy recording and streaming of its online curriculum offerings for online and blended courses, providing anytime, anywhere access for its diverse student body located on campus and around the world.

Now, the digital media and public affairs departments can create and manage video content for quick publishing to the student and public networks.
